Introduction - First of all to start out Super Mario Sunshine is truly one of the best platformers there is/was. I mean the games mechanics are truly awesome, wether it be the unique gameplay from the waterpack(F.L.U.U.D.) to riding around Dolphino Town with Yoshi there is absolutely no game like this. Any Mario fan or platformer fan alike will not be disappointed with this game. Mr. Miyamoto on his team really brought Mario to new heights with this game. With all of this in mind I think we should move on to my review of what I consider the best Mario game to date. Super Mario Sunshine!!
Gameplay 9/10 - Yes the best feature of this game is the greatness of the gameplay. The best new feature added to this game is newly introduced F.L.O.O.D.(Waterpack) which Mario must use to get around and clean up the island. Now like Super Mario 64 the gameplay is taken to new heights with the addition of the waterpack. For example when your normal jumps just won't quite get you up the area/part of the level you need to the waterpack will have a hover function in which case you can easily use to get up to that place you once could not reach. That in itself is truly awesome. There are a few points of the game where the game tends to slow down, but not that much to bother anyone or anything. Overall the gameplay is the best aspect of the game.
Graphics 9/10 - This is the part where many people can easily complain about the graphics being ''Kiddy'' or ''Not to the Gamecubes full potential'', but in fact the graphics are AWESOME, in my opinion. While the character graphics aren't the best on the Gamecube Nintendo has never really concentrated on graphics as much as the biggest category, Gameplay. But still they put some serious time into these graphics, the water is by far the best I've ever seen in any kind of game. The way is flows and moves with the game is just plain awesome. While many complain how scratchy the graphics are in screenshots, they are wrong. While playing the game the graphics are not scratchy at all and the FMV scenes are even better than the normal graphics. Overall the graphics themselves are very good while they don't match up to other games they do hold their own especially with the tremendous amount of gameplay!
Sound/Music 10/10 - Like any Mario game that was made the sound and music section is awesome!!!!! I mean there are so many times where the music is just to irrestiable to hum along with. I mean there is never a moment where the music is just plain annoying and messes with your gameplay. The music is the best at every moment of the game, wether it be a soft soothing sound or more of a loud type catchy sound that we all know and love in a Mario game. There music in this game will not disappoint anyone, unless you just absolutely hate Mario. The sound is another story in itself, the sound is just plain awesome as well! I mean when you here Peach, Toad, or anyone speak it is just plain cool. There isn't a voice or sound I can complain about in this game. The sound of Mario running to him sliding down a wall all sounds plain cool and there is never hardly a sound that is too annoying that you won't want to do. With all of this in mind just remember the fact that sound/music is just plain good!
Difficulty 9/10 - Okay Super Mario 64 had its hard points when you first played through, but a majority of the game was easy. That is not so with this game. Don't expect to run through this game without having to do somethings atleast 2-4 times. And the great thing about it is it never ever gets annoying. I mean there are times where you'll fall from a very very high point and have to start the level over again, but the attitude towards it is always ''I gotta do that just one more time.'' That is the great thing about this game, you'll never have to worry about it being so difficult that there is a moment where you shut off the game and just not play for like a day because you know your stuck. There is always that feeling like you can do it better this one time, over and over and that is just plain cool. I've never had a game like this one, except Mario 64. A majority of the game isn't difficult while a majority of the game isn't easy. So it is about half and half and that is awesome, because it's not to difficult and yet not to easy. A balance between hard and easy is what I like in a game and this game has it.
Replay Value 8/10 - This game has so much replay value over Luigi's Mansion. Many complained about how short Luigi's Mansion was, but this game is loooong. I mean it will take atleast 30+ hours to complete the game, and that is not even including collecting every single Shine there is. With the many Shines to get, 120, there is always that feel to get those Shines. Although there is no multi-player option, there is so much fun just exploring this game that there is always the urge to come back just to play more of it regardless of a point, ex. collect a Shine. Overall the Replay Value of this game is large even without a multi-player option.
Control 10/10 - The control in this game is another thing that absolutely has to commented on. Controlling Mario is so easy, there isn't a time where it gets to frustrating. The control is so smooth too, I mean for example while using the waterpack it is so easy to maneuver around the level you may be in. Now while it does take some getting use too once you've played around a while with it you get used to the control and in later levels it just seems natural to use it. There is hardly ever an experience where the control becomes hard and you lose a life because of faulty or hard control. Even when doing a wall jump or some other move it is always easy to do and is alot easier than Super Mario 64. So basically the control for this game is smooth and easy, Miyamoto really put some effort into this one because the control is very good.
Overall 9/10-Overall this game is awesome there is absolutely no major complaint I can tell about or anything. This game is the one best Gamecube titles so far. The greatness of the gameplay to nice graphics and the soothing music all combined into one make this game the best Mario to date in my opinion. With the long awaited wait for a sequel to Super Mario 64 Mr. Miyamoto has pulled out Super Mario Sunshine and he accomplished the goal with flying colors. This game is infact the best Mario to date, in my opinion.
